May Meeting

Meeting Notice
This Thursday at
Los Jimadores

Los Jimadores, 3313 Harwood Road, Bedford
We start at 7 PM and will go a little late this week with a special guest speaker arriving near 8 pm

Hi everyone! What an exciting couple of weeks it has been! First off, we’re VERY excited about how the local elections turned out in Euless, Hurst, and Bedford. We didn’t win all that we wanted, but the Teapublicans were soundly defeated in races that they poured many dollars, hours, and personal interest into. I’d like to personally thank John Schleeter, with the HEB Democrats city group for his efforts, insight, and dedication. John is a great example of people pouring their heart and souls into local races and making a difference.

We also know that we have our work cut out for us further north, in Colleyville, Grapevine, and Southlake. Kathleen Thompson has been making GREAT progress in that area, but it is tough. Same can be said for Keller and the Tea Party/Republican backing of the local school board election there. I’m disappointed that Shane Hardin did not beat the candidate hand picked by Giovanni Capgriglione, but it was a tough up hill battle. I’m proud, however, of our Mid-Cities Democrats club and how we assisted Shane with a fundraiser in Keller and having him speak to our club for additional matching funds for his campaign. We must not give up. And we’ll look for the Democratic clubs closer to the Keller to pick up the pace for races that are right in their backyard. We’re making a difference in H-E-B, and they need to be focused as well. Let’s be sure to give them the support and encouragement to push on.

As you see above, we have our regular meeting this Thursday. We’ve invited both HD 105 primary challengers to speak. Also, we’ve invited our area SDEC candidates to do the same. Come and see who is the best candidate for you, our districts, and Texas.

I’d also like to announce a special guest, joining us all the way from Austin! Will Hailer, the Executive Director of the of the Texas Democratic Party, will be joining us close to 8 pm as he drives in from a previous event in Dallas. Plan to stay just a little bit later than usual this Thursday as we welcome Will to our Mid-Cities Democrats club!

On a calendar note, we will NOT have our June meeting as it coincides with the Texas Democratic Party Convention in Dallas. We are working on details for staffing a booth at the convention, and we’ll provide updates to that effort on Thursday night.

I’ll include previous notes below. Thank you Chris Hilbert, our board member and fundraising chair, for your efforts.
